Vehicle search turns up more than 3,000 prescription pills

A Texas man was arrested on Friday for allegedly selling narcotics to an undercover informant in Monett, resulting in police finding more than 3,000 individual pills in the man's vehicle.
Jerry Rider, 62, of Weatherford, Texas, is charged with three counts of delivery of a controlled substance.
According to a probable cause statement filed by Cpl. Zack Bryan, with the Missouri Highway Patrol, during the week of Oct. 8-12, Bryan instructed a confidential informant to contact Rider, formerly of Purdy, about buying prescription opiates. According to the informant, identified Rider as a large source of illegal prescription opiates and benzodiazepines, saying Rider obtained more than 1,000 pills at a time on less than five occasions, with a recent transaction occurring in Barry County over the summer.
Arrangements were made with Rider to deliver narcotics to Monett from Texas, and at about 4:23 p.m. Friday, Rider met with the informant in a public location in Monett. After discussing the prearranged agreement, Rider allegedly presented the narcotics, and he was subsequently arrested without incident.
A search of Rider's vehicle turned up 748 hydrocodone pills, 2,123 Xanax pills and 207 Diluadid pills.
Rider is being held in the Barry County jail on a cash-only bond of $50,000. He had yet to be arraigned as of Monday afternoon. Monett Police assisted in the investigation.
